ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL IMPACT

Although the Master’s Program in Law at UDF is relatively “young,” it continues to expand its national influence, becoming a center for training researchers in Labor Law and Social Security.

The program includes alumni from all five regions of Brazil, with a significant number from the Central-West, Northeast, and North, thereby contributing to the national strengthening of research and professional training and broadening the impact of the program’s research across the country.

The exceptional performance of the UDF Master’s Program in Law recently led to the approval of its Academic Doctorate, which will further deepen high-level research initiatives that contribute to the development of professionals within the Judiciary—including judges, prosecutors, civil servants, lawyers, and law faculty across Brazil. The recognition of its faculty has resulted in frequent invitations to teach and conduct training courses for public bodies and the Judiciary.

Social initiatives promoted by the program’s Extension Projects contribute to the academic community’s social engagement and generate tangible benefits for society. Successful examples include:

• CLINIPREV – Social Security Law Clinic, which provides legal assistance and guidance to underserved populations
• William Beveridge Observatory on Social Security Studies
• Child Labor Observatory

At the international level, students and faculty actively participate in international research and publications, conferences, and seminars, and engage in postdoctoral research at prestigious foreign institutions. Collaborative programs and courses offer students meaningful interaction with the global academic community.

Of special note is the International Network on Constitutionalism, Labor, and Social Human Rights, which brings together members from prestigious national and international universities to collaborate on research addressing socially relevant themes.

INTERNATIONAL NETWORK ON CONSTITUTIONALISM, LABOR, AND SOCIAL HUMAN RIGHTS (RIUPE)

The International Network on Constitutionalism, Labor, and Social Human Rights (RIUPE) is a successful initiative that unifies the program’s two Research Lines and supports its strategic goal of promoting inter-institutional collaboration and advancing internationalization.

Coordinated by Professors Dr. Kátia Magalhães Arruda and Dr. Mauricio Godinho Delgado, RIUPE has held multiple meetings since 2020, involving researchers from UDF’s four Research Groups and various academic institutions such as USP (University of São Paulo), UNIFOR (University of Fortaleza), and the University of Minho (Portugal).

RIUPE’s academic exchanges have resulted in:

• Two International Meetings:
  • Uruguay (2023) in partnership with Universidad de la República
  • Peru (2024) at the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Labour Organization (ILO)
• One National Meeting, held in person at USP’s Rui Barbosa Auditorium

These collaborations led to significant publications and reinforced the program’s international academic standing.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAM

Scientific and technological initiation is a key tool for engaging undergraduate students in research, nurturing interest in science, and fostering a research-oriented mindset.

The Institutional Scientific and Technological Initiation Program encourages student involvement in research activities and supports the consolidation of UDF’s research lines. It also contributes to enhancing academic quality by fostering integration between research professors and students.

Students can participate in research projects through:

• Scientific Initiation (IC)
• Technological Initiation (IT)

with or without institutional or external scholarships. Volunteer participation is also possible.

Objectives of the Program

• To develop scientific thinking and research interest among undergraduate students, encouraging academic careers and socially engaged professional paths.
• To train and engage human resources in research, technological development, and innovation.
• To contribute to the training of professionals who will enhance the innovative capacity of Brazilian companies.

Scholarship

Scholarships are valid for 12 (twelve) months, provided they are granted from the first month of the institutional process.

The PIBIC/CNPq scholarship for undergraduate students follows the value set forth in the National Scholarship Values Table.
