BRIEF HISTORY

The group history began in 1965, when a group of young teachers joined to create a high school in the city of São Paulo, in the district of São Miguel Paulista: Colégio Cruzeiro do Sul.

With the number of students increase and new perspectives, in 1972, it was authorized to offer higher education courses, with the creation of Faculdade Cruzeiro do Sul. Then, the higher education courses offer started.

After 21 years of serious work and a lot of dedication, in 1993, comes the recognition from the Ministry of Education, which grants Cruzeiro do Sul the maximum degree among the higher education institutions, the title of UNIVERSITY.

Since then, a series of actions that would promote the scientific research were implemented. Still in the 90s, the Cruzeiro do Sul Scientific Initiation Instructional Scholarship Program was implemented and the 1st Scientific Initiation Meeting was held at the University.

Focusing on the future and seeking technological solutions that provided a quality education, researches in Distance Education were carried out, generating the first tests with virtual learning environments and the creation of the Distance Education Center, the current Cruzeiro do Sul Virtual Campus.

In the pursuit of excellent education, in 2001, the Dean and Pro-Dean professionalization was carried out, something without precedent in the context of private higher education institutions in Brazil.

In the same year, Anália Franco campus, in a noble neighborhood of the city of São Paulo, was opened, clearly showing the desire to broaden its action area in the city.

In this period, in recognition to the extension activities promoted by the institution since its creation, the University leads the first international mission of the Solidary University Program in Mozambique – Africa.

The use of technological tools applied to education is institutionalized with the use of Blackboard, in the Graduate education and, also, with the development of Eclass, the virtual learning environment, by Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul. Another major step was the inclusion of the University scientific initiation program in the Scientific Initiation Institutional Scholarship Program of CNPq.

In 2004, two other important facts mark the University trajectory: the beginning of Liberdade campus activities, in the central region of the city, and the approval of the two first masters’ degree: Dentistry and Science and Mathematics Teaching.

The dream of creating a group of private higher education institutions that was distinguished by the ethical principles and commitment to education begins to create form, with the Centro Universitário Módulo acquisition, the largest and most traditional higher education institution in the North Coast of the State of São Paulo.

And the University consolidation continued, with the opening of another campus: Pinheiros campus, in the West side of São Paulo, and the implementation of two doctorate degrees: Dentistry and Science and Mathematics Teaching.

Also in 2008, a further step towards the Cruzeiro do Sul Educacional Group consolidation is given, with the acquisition of Centro Universitário do Distrito Federal, the first private higher education institution in Brasília, Federal District.

In 2012, Universidade Cidade de São Paulo, a traditional and recognized institution for the quality of its course in the Healthcare area and for its performance in the distance education, became part of Cruzeiro do Sul Educacional, thus expanding the group role in the national territory and contributing, with the knowledge acquired during its 40 years of existence, to the continuous improvement of the courses offered by each institution member of the group.

In 2013, Alto Padrão High School, Técnico High School and Universidade de Franca – UNIFRAN, which holds the best quality indicators among the Brazilian private universities, were incorporated. Currently, the five higher education institutions offer undergraduate and graduate courses in contact and distance learning, and extension programs, respecting the local characteristics and demands. Therefore, congregating academically relevant higher education institutions and recognized trademarks in their respective markets are the goals of Cruzeiro do Sul Educacional.
